I don’t think the carving were letters, I’m pretty convinced that it was carving of flowers (roses, to be precise) as you can see here and here.

If it had to be letters, maybe Arakawa would put some sentences in Latin into it (like in Riza’s tattoo which says Igne Natura Renovatur Integra).
